Larnaka 2030 – the organisation running Larnaka’s bid for the European Capital of Culture 2030 – is introducing a new project Follow the Music, which aims to activate less enlightened aspects of the city and the region through music. The idea for this action emerged through the consultation process initiated by Larnaka 2030 with the artistic community of the city, and particularly, in collaboration with the musician’s Working Group.
At the same time, through Follow the Music, musicians are invited to illuminate unseen aspects of the city and the region, giving new impetus to buildings and forgotten streets. The audience will participate in a game of exploration, following the musicians’ clues and meeting them at the “hidden spot” where the musical encounter will take place each time. This collective celebration of music will be the culmination of the game, the joint exploration of forgotten places in the city and the countryside of Larnaka.
Follow the Music serves a very important goal of Larnaka 2030 which is to promote artists involved in music. It is extremely important to give this platform of expression and creation to this dynamic community of artists living in Larnaka. The programme will introduce these new musical acts by giving visibility to their work, helping them to build their own audiences.
Performances will begin in February 2024 and will continue on the last Friday of every month for the whole of 2024. At the beginning of the month the cast will be announced with the exact location where they will perform remaining unknown. This will be followed by a social media game (SM) that will give some key clues to the location of the musical encounter. Those wishing to attend the concert will know in advance the wider geographical location of the performance, but the exact location will be made known one hour in advance on social media and via email to those who have pre-booked a seat. So, from the beginning of the month until the time of the concert there will be this exciting process of interaction, exploration and ultimately shared experience in music.
It is worth mentioning that the programme will include surprise actions through the collaboration with the artists from the working group of Turkish Cypriot musicians and UNFICYP.
We therefore invite professional musicians and professional music groups of Larnaka to participate in the Follow the Music programme by filling in the following online application form: https://forms.gle/xmTdsrKzYQgQSU9i8
